I have uploaded the first 9 track demo my new music project “Tranquilistics” to Soundcloud as it seems to be a popular and practical way to circulate music. The tracks are still available here on this blog but Soundcloud has some real benefits and seems worth checking out. Tranquilistics is an instrumental and experimental, music project. A dark, hypnotic & surreal collection of guitar based progressive soundscapes with eastern, acoustic overtones and spacious psychedelia.
If you are into Soundcloud or just want a listen:

These photos are of the mighty “Morbid Angel” performing at the Manning Bar in Sydney. These guys are one of my all time favourite metal bands and it was awesome to have media access for the show. Thanks to Soundworks for the access and Jamie for putting Brett and I up for the night. Morbid were awesome and as entertaining as always and the Amenta were great too. Well worth the trip up the Hume.
Semi-Permanent is a 2 day design conference featuring 12 speakers from a range of creative professions including artists, designers, animators, illustrators, typographers & photographers who each speak for an hour and display their work and experiences in the design industry. We take a large group of students every year to the event which is always pretty inspiring and motivating for the groups. This year featured presentations by Moffitt Moffitt, Kelly Thompson, Corey Arnold, Supervixen, Reg Mombassa, Webuyyourkids, Alt group, Kayt Jones, Gemma O’Brian, Michael Leon & Fuel VFX. This year was a really strong line-up and most presentations were really interesting.
These photos are from the amazing Kyuss Lives show at Brisbane’s Tivoli on Friday Night. The band were great and played a huge 2 hour set. A few other friends from Canberra joined us for the show and a taste of Brisbane’s warm weather for the weekend. It was a packed show but I managed to get a few decent photos of the band before my card filled up. Managed to get one of a small run silk screened tour poster with some cool artwork that we got home in one piece.. now its off to the framers.
I have designed and uploaded a web site for my Tranquilistics music project. I wanted the site to showcase the new material produced and provided an interface for people to listen and download the music and video. While most of this material is available on this blog, the songs can now be downloaded for free and the project has its own space and identity on the net.
The site is HTML and CSS based and was created in Dreamweaver CS5 and PhotoShop to the 960 grid system. The site uses some flash based elements, mp3 player, FLV video and Lightroom image galleries. For music and video there are alternative downloads for users without Flash. I have been teaching CSS web design again this semester and have used various aspects of this interface design for examples and demonstrations in class. This site was tested with Safari and Firefox browsers but please let me know if you see problems with the site.
A previous student introduced me to these GoPro sports video cameras and I just had to get one. They shoot and amazing quality video on SD card and have a waterproof protective covering. I also managed to persuade CIT buy invest in one and we have been trying it out in various conditions. They also have a pretty cool time lapse mode and can shoot 720p up to 60 frames a second for smooth fluid slow motion. This photo was taken with my SLR and portrait lens in natural light. GoPro
I built this egg timer panner on the weekend to try out a panning motion with the GoPro Camera’s timelapse feature. I got the idea from a post on this GoProUser site. It is a mechanical egg shaped timer that ticks down in a circular motion 360 degrees in an hour. The first homewares shop I went into had the eggs. I shaved the top off the egg with a Dremel and glued a small ball head tripod head on top. I also made a recess for a tripod mount in the bottom and also glued it in place with epoxy.
Here is a timelapse of the device itself in motion. A full rotation takes 1 hour, at 1 shot every 10 seconds produces 360 frames.
This is my first attempt with the mount in the back yard on 10 second intervals between shots. This is really a test for me, on 10 second intervals, 1 every degree of rotation. The clouds are the most promising element and where you can see the timelapse effect.
Sneaky mission into Ginninderra Falls to take some cool pix, and get nostalgic in our old hang out. Closed to the public for years now.
I bought this Yidaki or didjeridu from the hand markets on St Kilda Esplanade. I really liked the design and have always found the sound amazing. Yidaki seems the more preferred name as didjeridu has Irish origins. I’m keen to work on playing it and developing circular breathing, it should be interesting to try.
