Photoshop Clipping Layer Experiments

These graphics are experiments using photoshop clipping layers with simple shapes but lots of layers and effects, mainly half-tone pattern and distortion filters. My class has some design projects with music industry students producing electronica and these are some demo graphic and techniques to get them started. The heart shape is a theme for one of the groups.

Booroomba Rocks – Namadgi National Park – Flash VR Panorama

This is a VR panorama of Booroomba Rocks in Namadgi National Park in the ACT. This is a popular rock climbing area about 40km from Canberra. Suzie and I went out for a drive and ended up walking up the mountain – probably a reckless decision as she is very pregnant but we eventually made it to the top. There is an amazing view of the the Brindabella ranges with Canberra City off in the Distance. There is still evidence of the 2003 fires where the area was badly burnt but the area is starting to recover. The panorama is 36 shots stitched together making a seamless 260 degree view.

Roy’s Hand Rendered Typography

These images are from a tutorial about hand rendered typography and how to digitise those graphics and use them in our designs. The first image is a rough draft developing the basic shape of the letterforms, I then map that out with more care on some grid paper, measure areas and develop the strong letterforms. Once complete I stick the artwork to my desk, stick some quality tracing parer over that and trace the design with care to produce a very clean master. This trace is then scanned, adjusted and finally traced using the auto trace feature in Illustrator. This process produces a very clean results providing your tracing work is thorough. Once the lettering is converted to  vectors they can be treated in many different ways.

Hamilton Island – Panoramic Views – Flash VR Panoramas

These 2 images are from two of Hamilton Islands lookout points. They are interactive panoramic images with a 170 degree view of rotation. The first is from “One Tree Hill” and looks out over Whitsunday Island. The second is from The lookout over the Reef View Hotel looking out to Catseye bay – a little grey that day.

Sunrise at Catseye Bay – Hamilton Island – Flash VR Panoramas

These two large images are flash VR-style interactive panoramas of Catseye Bay Hamilton Island at dawn. I shot these panoramas with my SLR and a Manfrotto VR Head & Tripod that managed to fit in my suitcase. Each panorama is 36 images stitched to together at 10 degree intervals to create a seamless panorama. This image is then used to generate this interactive flash based image. (No love for iphone users).

This is a VR-Style Panorama of the Hardy Reef “Reefworld” Pontoon. I shot this panorama hand held and just relied on the stitch assist function on the G9 to get the sequence ready for stitching.

Tranquilistics web site launched – HTML & CSS

tranquilistics.com

I have designed and uploaded a web site for my Tranquilistics music project. I wanted the site to showcase the new material produced and provided an interface for people to listen and download the music and video. While most of this material is available on this blog, the songs can now be downloaded for free and the project has its own space and identity on the net.

The site is HTML and CSS based and was created in Dreamweaver CS5 and PhotoShop to the 960 grid system. The site uses some flash based elements, mp3 player, FLV video and Lightroom image galleries. For music and video there are alternative downloads for users without Flash. I have been teaching CSS web design again this semester and have used various aspects of this interface design for examples and demonstrations in class. This site was tested with Safari and Firefox browsers but please let me know if you see problems with the site.

Tranquilistics – “Grand Illusions” Guitar Picks

Some more experimental promo plectrum designs. This one based of the Grand Illusions artwork I did in january, I have been experimenting with colours and material to see what designs work best for the medium, these turned out a little more saturated than the original file but still look pretty cool.

UZUMAKI – Performance Parts Logo

Logo design for Uzumaki – Automotive Performance Parts. This is a specialised on-line import parts business about to launch in March this year. I will post the URL when the business launches. Uzumaki means spiral in japanese and we went for a very fast looking and cool looking typographic style. This is a 100% vector design created in Adobe illustrator to facilitate decals in a variety of sizes uses with some variations for the web and merchandise. These guys take their cars and racing very seriously and the business will have an big emphasis on customer service.

Rococo Creations – Promo Postcard

These are front and back designs for a promotional post card I designed for my friends Karlie and Kystal at Rococo Creations who make amazing hand made fascinators and fancy headpieces for ladies. We did some photo shoots of all the pieces and this postcard to promote the work. The closest I have come to fashion work, I little out of my personal style but good practice for other target markets. www.rocococreations.com
